Power units of Ukrainian nuclear power plants were urgently switched to a new mode of operation and are being prepared for repairs

by .The overproduction of electricity, which has been recorded for two weeks in a row, became the basis for making decisions regarding the transition of power units of nuclear power plants to smaller capacities. "Energoatom" is preparing them for scheduled repairs, the company reports.
"The repair campaign at the NPP was planned to start on March 13. However, the current situation allows starting work five days earlier – from March 8. Thanks to this, it will be possible to prepare nuclear power units faster for the autumn-winter period of 2024/25, to optimize the schedules of repair and preventive works, including fuel reloading," Energoatom notes.
According to operational information of the company servicing the activities of nuclear plants, on March 7, Ukrainian nuclear power plants generated 6,950 MW. "This is the largest amount of electricity among all generations," the information states.
It is known that all Ukrainian employees of one of the largest nuclear plants in Europe – Zaporizhzhya – were blocked by the occupation authorities. Corresponding actions have been taken against employees who did not sign "contracts" with the occupation authorities, reports "Energoatom".
From the beginning of February 2024, the occupation administration of the Zaporizhzhya NPP prohibited Ukrainian personnel from entering the site where the equipment is operated. However, until recently, part of the workers – approximately 360 people – remained working without having the appropriate agreements with the occupiers.
Since the capture of the station by the occupying forces of the Russian Federation, almost 5,200 specialists have left Energodar, effectively creating a vacuum of qualified employees for maintenance. Until now, the fate of 17 employees of the nuclear infrastructure is unknown. "The occupiers are replacing qualified Ukrainian personnel with people from towns near Energodar who have no idea about the operation of nuclear facilities. This, in turn, leads to illiterate actions with the station's equipment, as a result of which it constantly degrades," said Petro Kotin, head of Energoatom, in a comment.
